Recovery & Dealing with Illness

Mindfulness and well-being coaching can help make symptoms more manageable. The eCALM trial, a therapy program for cancer patients, found that mindfulness reduced symptoms of stress, relieved fatigue and facilitated post-traumatic growth (Zernicke, Campbell, Speca, ruff, Tamagawa, & Carlson, 2016).

Often sufferers of chronic illness have ruminating thoughts about the future, this has also been known to be helped by mindfulness (Labelle, Campbell, Faris, & Carlson, 2015). These improvements in health can lead to a reduction in medication (Cherkin, Sherman, Balderson, Cook, Anderson, Hawkes, Hansen, & Turner, 2016).

Mindfulness has also been shown to help carers who look after people with chronic illnesses or disabilities, helping with their stress, depression and anxiety (Li, Yuan, & Zhang, 2016).
